In an event like no other, Red Bull Art of Motion is the highest-profile free running competition and was established in 2007. An international competition bringing the best free running athletes to compete in countries all over the world. With the established ‘Art of Motion’ logo as the centrepiece, the remaining branding elements differ from country to country.
Held at the Yokohama Dockyard Garden in Japan. The concept I had for the Red Bull Art of Motion event key visual, was to combine several landmarks and an athlete interacting and showcasing their acrobatic skills within the environment that is distinctively Yokohama, Japan.
I photographed several key landmarks in the city. Yokohama Minatomira, Landmark Tower Sky Garden, Nipponmaru Memorial Park, Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris Wheel, and the futuristic Yokohama International Passenger Terminal combining them all to make a fictional course.
Merging my photography and photographs of a parkour athlete in action, I stylised and applied a hand drawn brush stroke watercolour technique and grunge art elements which created that urban street appeal. The key visual was used on banners, decals, video, digital assets and additional promotional print material for the event.
